| Sorry to hear that stress is getting to you, but
will get to that later. Until then let me tell you about my day.
By the way if there are misspellings in this letter forgive me I am in a
hurry as they are charging me by the minute. Well I woke up at
7:30AM and showered and had breakfast so as to catch the tour bus at 9.
We weren't able to visit most of the sites that are normally visited in
Shanghai because President Bush was coming in that day and a lot of
things were closed for security, that and so the big wigs could visit
them unobserved by the proles. So we went again to the Bund,
mainly for the benefit of the slack asses who didn't visit it on their
own the day before. Then we went to a second level tourist site,
the former home of some woman they call the mother of modern china.
What her name is escapes me. All I remember is that they made me
put shower caps on my shoes so as not to scuff the floors and also that
she went to college at Wesleyan in Macon, GA back in the 1910's.
After that we went to a fresh water pearl store and learned
about pearls. I mostly stayed outside and talked with the bus
driver and smoked cigarettes. I know bad me, but it got me away
from crazy women buying pearls. My grandmother wanted to know if
she could buy some pearls for you so they could be from me, but I told
her you would much rather something from an archeological dig like in
Xian. Plus they looked like paste jewelry. After that we
went on the road in our bus and drove towards WuXi. We stopped at
a place called Turtle Head Island, which was very beautiful, if dull.
Then we had dinner, Chinese food again. When we get back, don't
expect me to eat Chinese food for a month or so. It is only the
second day and I am sick of noodles and rice. Now I am at me hotel
and will be going to bed soon as the wake up call is at 6:30Am and we
are on the road by 8. We are of to Hanzhou I think tomorrow, the
place where silk comes from, I am sure we will get a demonstration of
worms shitting silk, oh joy.
One side note, I am starting to get paranoid. People are staring
at me, most in neither a good or bad way I think. Some good and
some bad, but I also got flicked of by a soldier and the waiter tonight
gave me the evil eye throughout the meal. My mom says it is cause I look
slightly Islamic, but then she had a few beers. Do I look Islamic,
well maybe to the Chinese, who knows
